"And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understanding all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have no charity, I am nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:2 (italics and bold added)
I have been thinking a lot about how I can be a better person. The idea of charity has been pressing my mind for some time now. I absolutely love that word and everything it stands for. Charity is pure love. A love that is so hard for me to imagine, yet you know what? "It is the love that Christ has for the children of men and that the children of men should have for one another. It is the highest, noblest, and strongest kind of love and the most joyous to the soul." (lds.org Topic Definition)
LOVE is more than a feeling. Love is an action. An action of service and hoping for better in the world. If we believe that we can make a difference and we can give hope to anyone in need (and hope in ourselves) then we can love...and serve.
"Wherefore, there must be faith; and if there must be faith there must also be hope; and if there must be hope there must also be charity." Moroni 10:20
At BYU-Hawaii I'm working on a project with several other students. It's called @RTIMOS Productions. It is a music/dance concert held on campus. The purpose is to create a space of peace and cultural understanding, and to teach principles of leadership through the performances of BYUH students. Our next concert coming up in March is focusing on service. Our theme is: Soul, Heart, and Hands.
It's that progression of finding it within our souls to see other people and love them. We will put that love from our heart into action as we truly serve others.

"Be the change you want to see in the world." -Gandhi
"Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another." Romans 14:19
No matter where we are from, or where we are at the moment, or who we think we are, we can all help each other and share our love.
This is how I will grow to be a better person.

Kuulei I love your thoughts on Charity. The words were exactly what I needed to read tonight...Especially the question, "How can I become a better person?" Perhaps it really does begin with love--with that pure Charity that Christ had for his brothers and sisters. As I read I thought about a quote I once read from Martin Luther King Jr's sermons..."Love is the ultimate force that makes for the saving choice of life and good against the damning choice of death and evil. Therefore the first hope in our inventory must be the hope that love is going to have the last word." In other words, using Martin Luther King Jr's words again, "Love is the most durable power in the world."
Again thank you for your thoughts...
Kuulei... well-written post! I have been feeling the exact same way lately about charity. I also loved the fact that you described love as an action! It truly is an action. Thank you for this reminder. Hope you're doing well! :)
